BASEMENT DESIGNS

Basement Designs Video

Basement designs can be some of the most fun you have choosing themes, remodelling, furnishing, or decorating over your entire life in your home.  Why?  Basements aren’t like the rest of the house.  There’s no need for flow, tact, maturity.  This isn’t the space that the entire world will see.  Your basement is your fortress of solitude – a personal space that can reflect who you really are, and what you really want.  Your basement designs can tap directly into the core of what makes you…well…you.

But choosing basement designs can be slightly more overwhelming than it seems.  What is it going to be?  Rec room with pool table?  Extra bedrooms for big family get-togethers?  Giant mahogany bar with working beer line?  Is this a new space for your kids to get them out of your hair, and off your coffee table, or is it finally a chance to put in that home gym you’ve always wanted?

Whatever you decide on, here’s some advice that you’ll need to know about each of my favourite basement designs:

Basement Designs

Basement designs for kids:  try and make it unique for your kids, but always keep in mind safety.  If your children are young, and you want this to be a play area that doesn’t disturb the rest of the house, consider putting down soft-surface matting, or at least thick carpeting.  If your kids are older, make sure you don’t forget the TV and Internet connection, or trust me, it will go unused.

Basement designs for extra bedrooms and bathrooms:  When you’re adding places for sleeping, fire code regulations change.  Make sure you talk with a contractor to make sure everything is legal.  Same with regulations about natural light and ventilation in sleeping areas.  Also, as far as bathrooms go, if you can’t do the plumbing yourself, you can definitely save some money by buying all the fixtures yourself.

Basement designs for bars, gyms or theatres:  The best part about these is that the design is practically already done, right?  There really won’t be any need to separate the space into different rooms, so your only issues are with floors and lighting.  (And of course, shelling out the cash for all the equipment, i.e. TV’s, weights, or bar stools.)

So, take the plunge!  Choose your ultimate basement designs, and finally make your home the place you’ve always wanted it to be.
