Basement framing is one of the ways of getting a basement done. It can also be one of the things that a homeowner can do to change the basement if they feel it needs something new.

Normally, a person would have basement framing done by a professional but it's possible to be done by the homeowner alone. If it's going to be done by yourself then you would have to get a permit from your local building board.

Here are some things that you should consider if basement framing is to be done:

  • Draw out and measure the specs of your basement; this will give you a basic layout so you can see how big of a job it's going to be.
  • Make sure you've got the proper equipment; basement framing is a big job and it requires the needed tools in order to get maximum production.
  • Think about what you've got planned for the basement; if you plan to have a bedroom in the basement, then you must also install an egress opening for safety purposes.
  • Remember what goes behind the walls; you'll also have to take into account installing electrical wires, plumbing and insulation. A permit must also be acquired for the wires and plumbing.
  • Check for and seal up any leaks; this should be taken care of before you start. Not only can leaks hinder your progress for basement framing but they also reduce the R-value in your basement's insulation and lead to the growth of mold.

Basement framing is a tough job to do, but it leaves you with more possibilities for your home.
