Basement mold is never a good sign! Mold can especially develop in the basement because there are a lot of places where moisture can enter. If mold grows in the house, it can lead to serious health problems to the inhabitants.
The best way to eliminating basement mold is to stop it from happening. Any places where moisture will likely enter (pipes, windows, cracks in the wall or ceiling, etc.) should immediately be sealed so there's a lower chance of the water standing in one place and mold growing from it.
If basement mold has already been found, then you should take precautions when removing it. Always wear gloves when handling objects that are contaminated with mold, wear goggles so no mold spores can enter your eyes, and wear a dust mask so you won't inhale the mold by accident. Then, you may begin with removing the mold in the effected area.
Once the basement mold has been removed, now you can work on making sure that it doesn't happen again. If mold gets on drywall or carpet, it should be replaced so the mold can be effectively prevented in those places. A dehumidifier will keep the air in the basement at the right moisture level so mold has a less likely chance of forming. Keeping the air flowing is another way to prevent basement mold, so check to see if your ventilation is running smoothly.
With all of these factors in check, you're ready to keep basement mold out of your house so you and your family can live in a safe place.
