Submersible-types – these go underground so they can work underwater and they work the same way as pedestal-types. Although a little more expensive, they're more quiet and they last longer since they don't have exposed machinery.
Water powered-types – these are connected to your house's plumbing. This way, it will save on electricity when your basement does become flooded.

Keep in mind that your basement might not always flood out of control, but basement sump pumps are always there to save your home from having an underground lake.
