Every March the snow melts, and water is rushed down driveways and streets into gutters, where it is washed away into the sewer system. Along with this natural yearly occurrence comes spring rain, which usually lasts about a month. Basement leaks are at their peak around this time, especially with older construction, where foundation cracks are more prevalent.
Water seeps through the wet ground and travels downward and sideways, looking for creeks or rivers. What gets through concrete foundation walls is caught there and becomes the infamous basement leaks that are annoying, costly, and potentially hazardous. As the atmospheric conditions warm and dry, the ground dries with it, and water evaporates. Water from basement leaks will evaporate as well, but because of the dampness within the concrete mold will develop. Some molds are on people's allergy lists, and some allergies can be deadly.
