Basically to seal out basement rainwater would be to fortify a home completely. No substance is better than finding even the most miniscule of openings or cracks. No one can stop rain from falling on his or her home. But there are ways to prevent it from reaching the basement. The idea is not to have to seal out basement rainwater.
Changing the grade of land from the foundation of the home out is a good place to start, as ground sloping away will direct water toward lower collections. Having trees further away from the house will lessen the chance of approaching moisture underground from traveling along roots. Weeping tiles or drainage can seal out basement rainwater by pooling and redirecting it to a segregated area like a stream. While many builders disagree with sealing interior foundation walls, the combination of an exterior concrete sealant and unobstructed properly attached gutters and spouts will greatly contribute to sealing out basement rainwater, keeping it as far away from the house as possible. Water can be collected from a slanted roof, transferred across gutters and down spouts and transferred directly into underground piping to be pooled at another location.
