TOILET PLUMBING IN BASEMENT SPACES

Most of the time, toilet plumbing in basement areas can be a simple job.  So if you’ve finally decided to put that extra bath in the basement, congratulations, it’s an extremely smart investment, and a great addition.

But, wait?  You say the drain pipes are just a few feet off the floor?  Well, unfortunately, that just made things a bit complicated.  You see, those drain pipes might as well be on the roof – water doesn’t flow uphill.  But don’t let that get you down, there’s still plenty of possibilities for toilet plumbing.  Basement remodelling, for years, has made use of “up-flush” toilets.

So what is an up-flush?  And how can it solve your needs for toilet plumbing in basement spaces?  Well, essentially you have three options.  One is cheap but not extremely effective, one is about even, and one is expensive and really effective.

Toilet Plumbing in Basement Option 1:  The first type is an electrically pumping unit.  These come in several difference sizes, and some you can even hook up a washing machine or sink to as well!  (Perfect for the basement)

Toilet Plumbing in Basement Option 2:  Next up is the free-standing sewer ejector unit, which is a self-contained pump/tank system.  Easy to install yourself, but it is built to sit on the floor, meaning everything (sinks, toilets, etc.) will have to be installed above it.

Toilet Plumbing in Basement Option 3:  The most expensive, the most powerful, and the most permanent, and the most difficult to install.  It has no fancy name, but it works.  It involves cutting a hole into the concrete foundation to make a “sump”, a 30 gallon tank, float and check valves, electrical and plumbing hook-ups.  But if you can spend the cash, it’s worth it.

So, dive in!  (Uh…not literally though.  That’s a bit gross).  And get ready for the toilet plumbing in basement world that you can only truly understand, appreciate, and of course hate, once you get started.
